New Trash Rules

We have been notified by our trash contractor, Deffenbaugh, that new rules adopted by the Johnson County Commissioners will begin 1-1-2012. The changes are as follows ...

  • The cost will increase which will increase our annual dues.
  • The maximum amount of weekly trash allowed to be picked up is 96 gallons if it is in a trash bin. It can also be defined as 6 bags assuming you are using a standard size trash bag ... 32 gallon size approx.
  • You can keep your existing trash bin if you wish. The neighborhood prefers that it have an attached lid.
  • Another trash bin option is at Lowes. They sell a 96 gallon trash bin which can be purchased for $95. These bins have hinged lids and wheels. Note that if anything changes in terms of regulations or contracts this may no longer be acceptable.
  • Another trash bin option is to contact our current trash service at www.deffenbaughinc.com  and they will give you a 96 gallon trash bin for $5 per month billed directly to you. These bins have hinged lids and wheels.
  • If you have excess trash beyond 96 gallons per week you will be required to have a sticker placed on each bag. These stickers are $1.25 per bag and sold in sheets of 10. At this time the closest locations to purchase the stickers are at the Hen House at 117th & Roe, the Price Chopper at 119th & Metcalf or the Price Chopper near 103rd & State Line.
  • Recyclable trash will have no limit of amount disposed.
  • Here is the Recycling Guidelines link and includes ... identified plastics, cardboard, paper, newspaper, junk mail, magazines, aluminum and steel cans among other items.
  • Yard waste is limited to 6 bags or 6 bundles and only allowed in paper bags. Yard waste will only be allowed between the months of March through November. In October and November the limit will increase to 10 bags.
  • Blowing, raking, dumping grass clippings or leaves into the streets, storm drains and creeks is illegal.
  • More information can be found at www.JoCoRecycles.org and at our trash vendor's website www.deffenbaughinc.com .
  • The Holiday policy for trash is if your scheduled trash pick-up day falls on or after a holiday, it will be picked up one day later that week.

We thought the photo above of the Red Sunset Maple Tree was most appropriate for our site. We have a plethora of them in our neighborhood, most are our street trees planted by the Board years ago. It is quite a sight to see in the fall, it's part of our trademark.
